Summary
Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrom (MRS) is rare disease related to nervous system and skin which is characterised by three symptoms. First time disease was described in 1928 by Melkersson as the reccurent lips oedema and paralysis of the facial nerve. The third symptom of the disease: folds and furrows in the tonque was added in 1931 by Rosenthal. Usually one of described signs is observed few years before next symptoms appear.
Ethiology is unknown but scientist suspect genetical predisposition. In the biopsy of the lip (in early period of the disease) oedema and lymphocytic infiltration around blood vessels is observed. It is observed that MRS associated with itching, burning sensations, erosions of the lip angles, ulcerations or erosions of the oral cavity mucose membranes can be symptom of the Crohn disease. Differential diagnosis involve rosacea, lupus erythematosus, tuberculosis, sarocoidosis or acromegaly. Treatment of the Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrom is difficult because of unknown ethiologic factors.
