Ocena wiedzy studentów na temat czynników ryzyka i profilaktyki nowotworów płuc

Summary
Introduction. Lung cancer is the most common cause of deaths that are caused by cancer among both men and women. This is one of the most common cancers. The only effective preventive measure that reduces the risk is not to start smoking or quitting. Limitation of lung cancer depends on the self-awareness of the people and the deliberate and systematic health education.
Aim. Aim of this study is to provide information about students’ knowledge in the field of lung cancer, risk factors and prevention.
Material and methods. The study was conducted in February 2012 in Medical University of Warsaw. The research method was a diagnostic survey, conducted using proprietary questionnaire containing 18 questions. 150 questionnaires were distributed. Properly received back 136 completed questionnaires. Study group consisted of 136 persons. The study included students from the Medical University of Warsaw of the nursing bachelor’s degree part-time and fixed. Respondents with graduate was 70, while the undergraduate was 66 people.
Results. 73% of students graduate and 62% undergraduate students rated their knowledge about lung cancer as good and very good. Cigarette smoking as a major risk factor for lung cancer indicated 79% graduate students and 82% of undergraduate students.
Conclusions. It is expected that a satisfactory knowledge that students demonstrated on lung cancer in the future will be that they will spread the principles of health and prevention. It seems to be investing in programs designed to prepare students for future health professionals to effectively carry out educational tasks. Despite the good results obtained from the study is the need to improve the knowledge of students, as future educators in the field of lung cancer.
