Streszczenie
The purpose of the study was presentation of data on the incidence of selected respiratory diseases in children living in Trzcianka. The effect of selected environmential factors was assessed on the incidence of respiratory symptoms. The study included 600 children aged 9-13 years. An inquiry form was prepared containing questions concerning the history of bronchitis and pneumonia, signs of respiratory and dermatological allergy. Particular attention was paid to the incidence of bronchial asthma evaluating not only children with established diagnosis of asthma but also those with symptoms suggestive of that diagnosis such as dry nocturnal cough, breathlessness on effort, wheezing, attacks of dyspnoes. A trial was undertaked of finding correlations between certain environmental factors and respiratory symptoms.
It was found that respiratory diseases symptoms are a frequent problem in children in Trzcianka occuring in 47.9% of them, and only 5.7% of these children visited specialists in pulmonology and allergology. A disproportion was noted between the group of 19.7% of children with a history of symptoms suggesting asthma and the group with this diagnosis established by doctors (2.1%). Increased risk of respiratory diseases was connected with presence of molds and humidity in home environment, domestic animals, use of gas burners as additional warming source and exposure to chemicals.
