Streszczenie
In the first part of his paper, the Author reviews medical and social reasons for which hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) gains popularity among females. In the following part of a paper, the history of HRT and sympthomatology of a perimenopausal period are summarized. The indications and contraindications, currently used regimes and adverse effects of HRT are discussed as well. The paper reviews also a number of special problems such as hormonal replecement therapy in women after therapy for genital cancers, non-estrogenic options of HRT, the use of estrogen-androgen supplementation in postmenopause, and the influence of HRT on neurogenerative disorders such as Alzheimer disease. In the last part of the paper the Author focuses on the future trends in hormonal replacement therapy.
