Streszczenie
Urinary incontinence in women is a common disease with different underlying pathogenesis. The role of modern surgical procedures in the treatment of the disease is presented. Advantages and disadvantages of currently used operations including vaginal, or retropubic colposuspension, sling procedures, tension-free vaginal tape (TVT), periurethral injections are presented. Also, their relation to the primary cause of incontinence is discussed. The choice of a type of surgical procedure for urinary stress incontinence in women basically depends on two factors, i.e. (1) hypermobility of the urethra and (2) incompetence of the urethral sphincter. Sling procedures are generally effective in both conditions of urinary incontinence. The results of our experience with the TVT operation indicate that it is relatively simple, minimal invasive and effective method of surgical treatment of urinary incontinence in women.
