This paper presents research advances on the boundaries of dermatology and molecular biology, concerning the physiology and pathology of hair, the neogenesis of hair follicles, the hair cycle and its disturbances, loss of hair and pigmentation disorders. The importance of interdisciplinary research and the possibilities of its clinical application are emphasised.
