Summary
The current data regarding epidemiology, etiopathogenesis and treatment of keloids was reviewed. While there is a substantial progress in the field of basic sciences still the results of treatment of this disfiguring disease are far from our expectations. The introduction of new treatment methods like lasers, cytokines (interferon-g) and cytostatic agents (bleomycin) is very promising step toward complete solution of this serious therapeutic problem.
